Perched on a very steep hill in Echo Park, this 1950’s post-and-beam house was renovated to emphasize its modernist characteristics while bringing it into the next century. The structure, which includes a new room addition and deck, is a study in openness, simplicity, and light, with the bonus features of sustainable materials and greater energy efficiency.
A more expansive sense of space was created on the ground level by eliminating a bathroom, removing walls and exposing the original beams in the ceiling. Larger windows were added in the back of the house to connect the interior to the landscape and nature beyond.
