The interior of this 1950s ranch-style home in Sherman Oaks was completely updated and a new, two-story studio/guest house was added.

From the street, the house is quiet and unassuming. A modern wood-clad box demarcates its entrance. Once inside, sliding panels of glass open the home to the entire Los Angeles Valley with the Verdugo and San Gabriel mountains beyond.

The entry box provides the central circulation for the house while also providing several access points to the outdoors. Natural, custom wood cabinetry offset the polished concrete floors while accents of a gray palate provide relief from the brilliant Los Angeles sun. The clients request for a green home influenced all of the material choices, best construction practices, solar technologies, lighting and water use.
