The focus of this renovation to a classic, impeccably-preserved Colonial House in Los Angeles’ Hancock Park neighborhood was to maintain the home’s period feel while updating it with a master suite and bigger kitchen. It was important to have the renovations feel as if they were original to the home, which is why the chef’s kitchen was not opened up to the family room as is typical of modern day homes.
To expand the kitchen and make room for a corner breakfast nook, a service porch was reclaimed that previously housed the washer and dryer. Upstairs, a small tandem room was converted into a bathroom while the adjoining room was expanded to create a master suite.
